Original 1940 United States census, Illinois, Cook County, Chicago ward 28, tract 288-part, ED 103-1768, sheet 17B, enumerated 15 April 1940, lines 69–70, household 367; Ancestry collection 2442, image 34/38; NARA T627 roll 977. Sam Catalano, head, 36, married, born Illinois, automobile mechanic; May, wife, 31, born Italy, alien, sales clerk in department store, respondent marked. Rented home $18 at 621 Oakley Boulevard (house number carried from line 67); 1935 residence Same Place means Chicago, not necessarily the same house. This household correlates with Domenica Catalano petition 238643 (1941), which gives 621 N. Oakley Blvd., husband Samuel, birth in Bagheria and the 1912 SS Canada arrival as Domenica Traina, with requested name Mae Catalano. Sam’s Illinois birthplace in this census conflicts with Pueblo, Colorado in the petition; retain both source statements. May’s age 31 is consistent with birth about 1908–1909. Her name, age, Italian birth and department-store work are consistent with Mammie Triano in 1930, but this page does not name her parents or independently prove Annie/Giovanna equivalence. Full original inspected 25 October 2026.
