Primary-source research lead, inspected November 5, 2026 by Archive AI. FamilySearch, Bankruptcy file of the Supreme Executive Council: Pennsylvania Government Records 1785–1790, DGS 008718980, item 2, item-relative images 316–319 (out of 1080). Four full-resolution JPG originals downloaded through the viewer; attachments to follow. The film’s physical image slates are 1316–1319; item-relative and whole-film numbering differ.
Image 319, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-V3DD-1L3R : Eden Shotwell, Philadelphia merchant, binds himself to Benjamin Franklin, President of the Supreme Executive Council, in £400 on June 12, 1786. The condition is proving Samuel Garrigues, Philadelphia merchant, indebted to him in ONE HUNDRED pounds and bankrupt under the Act for the Regulation of Bankruptcy. IMPORTANT: FamilySearch automatic transcript misreads the debt as two hundred; visual inspection of the original reads One hundred. This bond is procedural evidence, not a family relationship statement or final distribution account. Witness signatures not fully transcribed.
Image 318, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-J3DD-1XV6 : endorsement of Shotwell’s bond against Samuel Garrigues. Visual inspection of the endorsement reads June 12, 1786, agreeing with the bond face; the automatic transcript’s apparent June 16 is not adopted.
Image 317, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-V3DD-1XZN : commissioners’ oath, Philadelphia June 20, 1786, sworn before B. Franklin. Signatures visually read Matth. Clarkson, Matthew Mease, Geo. Hughes and Peter Paynton. Image 316, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-J3DD-127B : dated wrapper for S. Garrigues commissioners’ oath. Images 314–315 concern William Wister and John Garret; image 320 starts Ann Gibbs, defining the adjoining packet boundaries.
IDENTITY LIMIT: Samuel is called a Philadelphia merchant, consistent with Rebecca Haydock’s husband, but this packet gives no Junior designation, spouse, parents, children, age or Cedar Street property. Attached to his research record as a candidate bankruptcy lead, not conclusive identity proof. It does NOT establish Rebecca as Hannah Garrigues Norris Wallace’s mother; no relationship changes warranted.
NEXT: use Eden Shotwell and the four commissioners to locate assignment/distribution records and the 1787 bankruptcy/1788 sheriff-sale notices; compare land descriptions against Rebecca’s EASTERN Cedar Street messuage, 1 acre 107 perches, from the 1778 Haydock partition (WEB-20261104-194851-f8d33f09). Distinguish commissioners from assignees; the oath does not name assignees. APS Mss.B.F85.misc Box 5 Thomas Willing/Bank of North America petition catalog mentions a copy of part of Samuel’s bankruptcy but has not been inspected.
