Rebecca Haydock Garrigues

Recorded life status
deceased

November 2, 2026 — This couple's group is now connected to the main tree THROUGH SAMUEL, with his parent link to Hannah Garrigues (Norris, Wallace) expressly labeled PROVISIONAL—original-record correlation. Rebecca is connected as Samuel's documented spouse. She is NOT entered as Hannah's biological or stepmother. Her maternity remains unresolved; do not describe this as proof that Rebecca is a direct ancestor. William Henry Wallace's parents Thomas and Hannah are supported by baptism and corroborating family/probate records. [[evidence:WEB-20261102-171754-8aec1473|Evidence and limitations, with three preserved originals]]. Research task82427cd8-da6f-4b8a-b3db-4f4d9725b044 remains open. Earlier no-bridge statements below are historical checkpoints superseded only to this qualified extent.

October 17, 2026 — original meeting minutes now checked, Archive AI.

Evidence WEB-20261018-042955-a1aa7d4c preserves three original Philadelphia Monthly Meeting Women Friends minute pages (Haverford College, Ancestry collection 2189). On December 25, 1772 Samuel Garrigues and Rebecca Haydock appeared a second time and received permission to marry; on January 29, 1773 attendants reported the marriage accomplished orderly. Correlated with the signed register day January 21 (WEB-20261018-033440-26dc9fea), the supported ceremony date is January 21, 1773. The register’s literal 1772 remains a documented conflicting year, not silently corrected. January 29 is a report date, not the ceremony. December 25 appearance establishes presence in Philadelphia on that date only.

Namesake exclusion: the July 27, 1802 Darby removal certificate calls Hannah Garrigues the daughter of EDWARD Garrigues, clear of marriage engagements. It is not a marriage record and does not establish Samuel and Rebecca’s daughter. Original inspected: https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/2189/images/42060_1821100519_3716-00507 ; index https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/2189/records/1100375613 . No merge made. The Hannah–Thomas–William Henry Wallace maternity bridge still requires original marriage/probate evidence.

Earlier research (the request to check the meeting minutes below is now completed):

October 17, 2026 — Rebecca Haydock research, Archive AI.

Marriage and parentage: A facsimile of the Philadelphia Quaker marriage register, Marriages 1759–1814, pp. 234–235, was inspected. It identifies Rebecca Haydock as daughter of Eden and Elizabeth Haydock of Philadelphia, and Samuel Garrigues Junr., merchant, as son of Samuel and Mary Garrigues. Both spouses sign the entry. This is an image of a historical register shared on WikiTree; repository provenance and the date require correlation. Source image: https://www.wikitree.com/photo.php/4/41/Samuel_Garrigues_Jun_r_Rebecca_Haydock_marriage.jpg .

Date conflict preserved: the register literally states the twenty-first day of the first month, 1772. Founders Online's scholarly annotation to Franklin's February 14, 1773 letter says Rebecca married Samuel the previous month and cites Hinshaw, Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, II, p. 546. The WikiTree transcription also identifies a one-year scribal discrepancy. January 21, 1773 is a correlated date, not the literal year in this image; the meeting minutes should be checked before finalizing it. https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Franklin/01-20-02-0042 . The image itself says Philadelphia; the host's Lancaster caption should not be copied.

Philadelphia: Rebecca's reply to Franklin is dated Philadelphia, May 20, 1773 and signed Rebecca Garrigues. This supports recorded presence there on that date, not a move-in date or continuous residence. Published text of ALS held by the American Philosophical Society: https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Franklin/01-20-02-0121 ; existing evidence 900.60.011.

Wallace connection — promising, still provisional: Robert Garrigus, The Descendents of Matthieu & Susanne (née Rochet) Garrigues, June 15, 2003, person 49 and child 150 (PDF p. 10), lists Hannah Garrigues as daughter of Samuel and Rebecca and wife of Thomas Wallace. https://ancestry.smithplanet.com/documents/matthieu_assemblee.pdf . This published family compilation is a lead, not independent proof of the entire Stuart ancestry chain. The original family custody account 900.80.001 was re-inspected. It calls Hannah Rebecca's daughter, then lists Thomas Wallace with the explicit uncertainty '(her 2nd husband?)', followed by his son William Henry Wallace, husband of Katharine Keyser. It does not state that Hannah was William's mother. No biological bridge to William or merger with the existing Thomas Wallace (father of John Wallace) is justified yet.

Vital-date caution: the 2003 compilation reports birth July 26, 1748 and death about November 5, 1792. Its death reference is an Elizabeth Drinker diary entry of November 6, 1792 describing burial the previous day of Samuel Garrigues's wife. A burial date is not an exact death date, and the quoted wife is unnamed. A separate online tree gives 1793. Birth and death fields remain unset pending direct verification.

Next research: inspect marriage-intention/report minutes around December 1772–January 1773; Eden Haydock's will (Philadelphia Will Book Q:241); Rebecca's birth/burial entries; and Hannah Garrigues–Thomas Wallace marriage/probate records, then establish which wife was William Henry Wallace's mother.

Earlier notes retained:

October 14, 2026 — recipient identification, Archive AI. Created to associate the family’s photographed Franklin letter with its documented recipient, as requested by Joe Stuart. Founders Online (National Archives), From Benjamin Franklin to Rebecca Haydock [Garrigues], February 14, 1773, identifies her as recipient. The photograph in evidence 900.80.021 matches the published draft’s date, silk shipment, payment/account discussion and closing addressed to Miss Haydock. This identifies the correspondence; it does not authenticate the photographed autograph or establish its chain of custody. Source: https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Franklin/01-20-02-0042 . Her May 20, 1773 reply is published at https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Franklin/01-20-02-0121 (existing reference 900.60.011). The published annotation describes her January 1773 marriage to Samuel Garrigues Jr.; no spouse or parental profile links are created here. Her exact birth/death dates, residence history and genealogical connection to this archive’s family require separate documentation. Family custody testimony is retained in 900.80.001.

Marriage: January 21, 1773, Philadelphia (correlated). Signed register WEB-20261018-033440-26dc9fea writes January 21, 1772; original December 25, 1772 permission and January 29, 1773 completion report in WEB-20261018-042955-a1aa7d4c establish the corrected year. January 29 is the report, not ceremony. No inference of divorce or any child’s maternity.
