THE STUART FAMILY ARCHIVE

Alexander Diven (earlier Tyrone landholder)

Recorded life status
deceased

Original-record identification — November 2, 2026. Father of James Diven, the Tyrone farmer later known as James Senior, through a correlated land-title chain. Cumberland Orphans Court Docket 3 p. 276 (26 March 1800) and pp. 282–285 (29 July 1800) call James his eldest son. The 208-acre tract matches the 1774, 1780 and 1794 family releases, the 1812 patent H7 p. 647, and the 1822 executor conveyance tying that patent to James's 1818 will. Alexander was already deceased by the 5 April 1774 Mary Glen release; no exact death or birth date is established. The 1755 warrant is not proof of birthplace or residence. This is a different, earlier Alexander from James Senior's son whose Mifflin estate opened in 1797.

The court names six children: James, William, Joseph, John, Mary wife of John Glen/Glenn, and deceased Jane/Jean wife of Alexander McCoy. The confirmation names Alexander's widow Margaret McCurdy, formerly Margaret Diven. This is not evidence that she was the mother of James or the other children; she must not be confused with James Senior's wife Margaret. McCurdy is not established as a maiden name. No maternal relationship is inferred. These records do not prove that James Junior, Nancy Parkison's husband, was Senior's son.
