Abstract of pertinent clauses: household goods to John Forster in Strawberry Alley for life; Hannah Haydock, daughter of Eden and Elizabeth Haydock, receives five hundred pounds and plate; Robert Haydock, brother of Hannah, receives one hundred pounds and a riding chair; Rebecca Upham, daughter of William and Martha Upham, receives one hundred pounds. Son-in-law William Bromwell receives five pounds and is excluded from the residue. Granddaughters Mary and Hannah Bromwell are principal trust beneficiaries. On their contingent failure of issue, the Strawberry Alley house is directed to Hannah Haydock and the remaining residue to Robert Haydock, Rebecca wife of Samuel Garrigues, Hannah Haydock and Rebecca Upham equally. The trustee list includes Hugh Roberts, Thomas Williams, Robert Haydock and Sarah Bunting (another trustee's surname remains uncertain); probate granted to Hugh Roberts, Thomas Williams and Robert Haydock.
Significance: this is direct contemporary identification of Rebecca as Samuel Garrigues's wife in1778 and a named member of this Haydock/Forster beneficiary network. It does NOT identify Hannah Garrigues Norris Wallace's mother. Hannah Haydock and granddaughter Hannah Bromwell in this will are different people from the later Hannah Garrigues Wallace. A contingent bequest is not proof that money was actually distributed. No parentage or maternal link added on this basis. The original household inventory discussed in later scholarship has not been inspected. Two full-size registered-will images attached; the index is a finding aid.
