Evidence review — October 30, 2026: The saved 1859 estate petition is now linked directly to this profile. It establishes Jackson as John's son and heir and identifies John's widow and seven-child family. The older 'no original probate inspected' statement is superseded by the recorded estate papers. The reported 1834 death remains retrospective; John's own parents, exact vital dates, Margaret's Weidner maiden name and the compiled marriage date are not proved by this petition.
Original-record update — October 7, 2026: Jackson Kendig’s 1859 petition to the Chester County Orphans’ Court explicitly calls him a son and heir of John Kendig, late of Sadsbury Township. It reports that John died intestate in 1834, leaving widow Margaret and seven children: Susan, Eliza, John H., Elvina, Jackson, Mary Ann and Louisa. This family matches the compiled Levering account and the later Sadsbury Kendig–Reese records; the father relationship to Andrew Jackson Kendig is now supported by an inspected original estate proceeding, rather than only a compilation. [WEB-20261007-210012-f14b9e32]
The petition identifies Susan’s husband William Bear, Elvina’s husband Joseph Pine, Mary Ann’s husband John D. Kerlin Jr., and Louisa’s husband A. Judson Rees. It names five Pine grandchildren. The six newly documented siblings and their families now have separate linked profiles. Eliza the daughter is distinct from Jackson’s wife Eliza Jane Reese.
John’s retained property included the Sadsbury Ville Inn, a tavern house and roughly nine acres. On October 31, 1859, eldest son John H. declined the property; second son Jackson received it for $5,005, subject to the stated estate payments and Margaret’s widow’s rights. An April 1839 estate account names Samuel Armstrong and Margaret Kendig as administrators; no relationship for Armstrong is stated.
The 1834 death year is retrospective testimony in the 1859 petition; the county index’s 1835 administration year is not itself a death date. John’s exact birth, death day and own parents remain unknown. Margaret’s Weidner maiden name and the March 8, 1814 marriage date still rest on compiled evidence. The estate confirms a widow named Margaret but supplies neither her maiden name nor John’s parents. The earlier subjective percentage below is retained as historical wording, not a current evidence measure.
