Margaret Kendig appears next to the Reese and Kerlin households in the original 1870 Sadsbury census, dwelling 458/family 460, housekeeping, $300 personal estate. The handwritten age appears 76 but is retained as a provisional reading. This does not resolve the competing birth estimates or prove her own parents.

Census ages and reported origins remain source assertions. A household relationship to its head does not automatically establish biological maternity. Earlier qualifications and conflicting evidence remain preserved.

Earlier archive notes (preserved): Research update — October 7–8, 2026 (original records reviewed):
The 1879 estate audit reports Margaret Kendig died September 9, 1877, about 84, following a stroke three years earlier. John D. Kerlin is her son-in-law; his wife and Miss Pine are identified as daughter and granddaughter. Margaret Kerlin’s testimony names the deceased’s nearly blind sister Catharine Weidner. The 1850 census records Margaret Kendig, 51, with $4,000 real estate and the younger Kendigs in household 471/484.
Evidence qualification: Court-file year 1879 is not her death year. Age 84 suggests roughly 1793; census age 51 suggests roughly 1799; compiled February 17, 1794 remains a separate claim. The sister testimony does not identify her parents. The auditor disallowed Kerlin’s care/rent claim; subsequent exceptions mean this is not a claim about every final appellate outcome.
Family connection assessment: Document the explicit sister relationship to Catharine narratively; do not create shared parents merely to force a sibling link.
Next research: Seek an original Weidner probate or church record naming Margaret, Catharine and Susan; preserve the Peter Weidner/Susannah Levering parentage qualification.

Prior saved research (preserved verbatim):
Research update — October 7, 2026: Original 1859 estate papers identify Margaret Kendig as John Kendig’s widow and preserve her life interest in the Sadsbury Ville Inn property awarded to son Jackson. An April 1839 account names her as co-administrator with Samuel Armstrong. The estate lists John’s seven children and their married families. [WEB-20261007-210012-f14b9e32]
A separate official county index to an 1844 minor file explicitly lists mother Margaret for Mary, Louisa, John and Jackson Kendig, with decedent John Kendig. This independently supports Margaret’s maternal relationship to that sibling group, while remaining index evidence pending the original minor file. It does not give a maiden name. [WEB-20261007-211014-db79fb58]
The county tavern-petition index lists Margaret Kendig in Sadsbury in 1835, 1837–1841, 1844–1845, 1847 and 1852–1859, using Sadsburyville Hotel/Inn/House in named entries. Jackson follows at Sadsburyville Inn in 1860–1867. These are petition index entries, not inspected license decisions or proof of uninterrupted operation. They correlate with the original inn estate and the 1860 hotel-keeper household. [WEB-20261007-211108-92dcbfaf]
The seven-child family matches Levering (1897), p.248, making the compiled Margaret (Weidner) identification more persuasive. Her Weidner maiden name, marriage date, and Peter Weidner/Susannah Levering parentage nevertheless still need an original bridge. The 1794 birth claim versus roughly 1799–1800 from census ages remains unresolved. Do not treat all earlier-generation links as newly proved. The old percentage below is retained as historical wording, not a current evidence measure.
Prior saved research (preserved):
Margaret Weidner Uncertain compiled relationship · 70% subjective estimate Book gives birth 17 February 1794 and death 9 September 1877 at Sadsburyville, Pennsylvania; marriage to John Kendig 8 March 1814. This birth conflicts with the approximately 1799 birth inferred from the census ages cited by Waldron. Proposed identity with that Margaret remains uncertain.
