# Monasteri original naturalization petition and family correlation
Source 300.10.047; inspected 21 September 2026. Images 1156–1159 of 2065, Illinois petitions for naturalization.
The original 1931 petition names Salvatore Monasteri, laborer, born 15 November 1881 at Partanna, Italy, and wife Filicia, born 14 April 1882 at Partanna. It reports their marriage on 14 January 1906 at Partanna and lists three children: Frank, born 8 August 1906 in Italy; Tony, born 21 April 1920 in Italy; and Sam, born 1 September 1922 in Chicago. All three children were residing in Chicago. Filicia is reported to have entered through New York on 22 November 1921.
Sam’s exact birth date and Chicago birthplace match his inspected obituary and the 1922 birth index. The petition’s three sons also agree with the obituary’s description of Sam as the youngest of three boys. The birth index names parents Salvatore Monasteri and Felicia Muratora. Taken together, these sources support adding Salvatore and Felicia as Sam’s parents and Frank and Tony as his brothers. Muratora is supported by the birth index, not supplied by this petition; Filicia is preserved as the petition spelling. The birth index’s parental ages differ slightly from the petition dates and remain source-specific.
The attached declaration, image 1157, uses the name Sam Monasteri for the older petitioner and gives the same 15 November 1881 birth. This older Sam must not be merged with his 1922-born son. The petition names Saverio Monasteri as the arrival name. The original arrival certification, image 1156, issued 18 October 1930, records Saverio Monasteri’s arrival at New York on 28 January 1911 aboard SS Konig Albert. This is a government certification based on arrival records; the passenger manifest itself has not been inspected. The petition gives Cook County residence since 10 March 1920; magnified reinspection corrected an initial reading of 1910.
The oath on image 1159 is dated 3 February 1932. This is the naturalization date, not an immigration date. No additional ancestors, spouses or children are inferred. The parents’ and brothers’ later deaths remain unknown in this review.
