Sam Monasteri. Husband of Maria Traina. family-supplied compilation; original records pending. Named in Aunt Lori’s compilation. Spouse or spouses named: maria_traina_monasteri. Parents recorded by project IDs: not stated. Source: Aunt Lori family history compilation supplied 20 September 2026; evidence 300.00.001. Fastuca and DeCaro identity evidence: Original 1950 Chicago census, ED 103-2811, sheet 6, image 7 of 37, inspected at magnification: 3020 Flournoy, household 52, Gust Traina, head, 52, married, Italy, machinist at motor coach manufacturing, 40 hours; Alvira, wife, 50, Italy, restaurant waitress, 35 hours. Household 53 at the same street number: Alfred J Traina, head, 32, Illinois, food salesman; Camille wife 31 Illinois; Linda Ann daughter 2 Illinois. These latter rows were previously abstracted in 300.10.002. Household 54 begins Sam Monasteri, head, 27, Illinois, optician at a glasses manufacturer; next image continues Marie Monasteri, wife, 24, Illinois, receptionist/secretary in a shirt-company sales office. Next page also shows Angeline Criola, head, 67, widowed, Italy, with children James S 48, Nick 47, Charles P 45, Rose P 45, Antoinette 43 and Fred 36, all Illinois. Nearby Charles Stroble 27, wife Ann R 27 and daughter Sharon L 2 are a research lead only: the census does not prove Ann is Anna Criola, nor a connection to the private contributed Stroble profile. No new Stroble relatives are added. Follow-on image: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHN-GQHW-NJBD . [300.10.036] 300.10.044: Original 1950 census sheet 6 line 30 rechecked: Sam Monasteri, head, married, age 27, Illinois, optician, 48 hours. Earlier project transcription Louisiana was incorrect. Candidate Salvatore Monasteri SSDI JBFZ-762 gives birth 1 September 1922 and death 5 December 2009; birth index N777-FVL gives Chicago and parents Salvatore Monasteri and Felicia Muratora. Original birth certificate is center/affiliate restricted. Identity with Sam remains unconfirmed; candidate parents and exact vital dates are not added to his profile. Original certificate confirms son Jeffrey Michael Monasteri (23–24 September 1955), mother Marie Traina. Obituary index QKLS-Z66T names wife Marie, daughter Suzanne Monasteri-Mace and granddaughter Caitie Mace; original obituary blocked. Implausible indexed age zero and 2009 birth date are not adopted. 300.10.046 update: Sam M. Monasteri’s Los Angeles Daily News obituary, published 9 December 2009, gives birth 1 September 1922 in Chicago and death 5 December 2009. It names deceased wife Marie, daughter Suzanne Monasteri-Mace and granddaughter Caitie Mace. It describes a roughly 65-year marriage, Navy service during World War II, and an optical-sales business. It reports two older brothers but does not name them or the parents. Funeral and interment were scheduled for 10 December at San Fernando Mission. The phrase “only child” occurs in a survivor statement; it does not overturn Jeffrey’s original 1955 death certificate. A separate Legacy Remembers notice is headed Salvatore “Sam” Monasteri and gives the same 1 September 1922 and 5 December 2009 dates and Los Angeles residence. This supports Salvatore as Sam’s alias when correlated with the newspaper obituary and SSDI. The 1922 Chicago birth-index parent names remain candidates pending further verification; no parent links are added. Source 300.10.047: Sam’s parents are now supported as Salvatore Monasteri (born 15 November 1881) and Felicia Muratora, named Filicia in the petition. Original petition lists Sam with exact birth 1 September 1922, Chicago, alongside older brothers Frank and Tony. This supersedes the prior candidate-only parentage assessment. See the source note for record-specific date discrepancies. Military follow-up — October 3, 2026: Original June 27, 1942 draft card (FamilySearch QPZH-3G67; image 1069/1071, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSTM-TK3L) matches Sam, September 1, 1922, Chicago. A handwritten top annotation reads “discharged Jan. 18, 1946.” This is direct evidence of a discharge annotation on his original registration card, not an inspected separation certificate; author and annotation date are unknown. Navy/WWII branch and era are separately supported by obituary 300.10.046. Original image attached as WEB-20261003-163612-b89af7b5. Draft serial 126/order 11412 are not military service numbers. Ancestry WWII Navy Muster Rolls collection 1143 returned 16 exact-surname Monasteri entries, predominantly Sam with Sam C, Som and Sem variants. Dates are masked and opening a candidate requires a subscription; no identity, ship, rating or Navy serial can yet be assigned from these entries. The record references are preserved in the research report.
